Celebrate National Cooperative Month at Salt River Electric
Cooperative to participate once again in Free Light Friday
As you sip on your pumpkin spice latte and get swept into the spirit of fall, there’s another spirit that fills the month of October—the cooperative spirit!
October is National Cooperative Month, and Salt River Electric is celebrating the occasion all month long with the annual return of a popular giveaway.
Beginning on Friday, Oct. 6, members who come by a Salt River Electric office location to make a payment on their bill will receive a free LED lightbulb as part of our National Cooperative Month celebration. The bulbs will be handed out to members during Salt River’s Free Light Friday promotion during the month of October, just as long as you make a payment on your bill that day. If you’re a bank draft or pre-pay member, we want you to enjoy a lightbulb, too! Just stop in one of the Fridays this month to pick up your bulb. We always want to make sure everyone is involved.
“It’s such a small yet fulfilling promotion to host each year,” Manager of Communications Zach Epperson explains. “This is something we’ve done for a while now during the month of October, and our members have come to love it. After all, members are the reason cooperatives exist. Not just here at Salt River, but at over 800 cooperatives across our country. Anytime we can give back and thank our members, we consider that a good day.”
Not only do these LED lightbulbs help us thank our members for keeping the cooperative model alive, they also promote energy efficiency in your home. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that LED lightbulbs use at least 75% less energy than their incandescent counterparts, and can last up to 25 times longer than traditional lightbulbs. Not only that, but using LED bulbs in your home can help you save. Changing the bulbs in your home to LED ones can save upwards of $50 a year in energy costs.
Since 1964, National Cooperative Month has offered a chance to reflect on the cooperative model and how it has positively impacted members and their communities. When cooperatives like Salt River were formed over 85 years ago communities and their best interests were at the center—helping individuals to take part in the electrification of rural America.
So, find time this month to visit one of our offices, pay your bill and pick up a free lightbulb. The limit is one lightbulb per member per transaction. Promotion only available during Fridays in October.
