Taking Stock: Reflecting on Salt River Electric’s 2023
As the holiday season approaches, we can’t help but to look back and reflect on the past year. We want you, our members, to know that we’re working hard for you every day of the year to provide safe, affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity.
In 2023, we accomplished several goals and met new challenges, all while remaining focused on providing power at competitive rates to improve the quality of life for our members and the communities we serve.
Reflecting on 2023, it’s important to first recognize our team of highly qualified and dedicated employees. It’s a blessing to join with each of these individuals who work together to benefit you, our members.
As we close the book on 2023, here are some highlights from the year:
- Despite a number of storm-related outages, Salt River employees worked hard to maintain reliable service throughout the year, working tirelessly day and night to keep the lights on for our members.
- In June, Salt River Electric held our member appreciation day and annual meeting, an essential component of being a member-owned and member-controlled cooperative. This year’s meeting was once again a drive thru event, and attracted over 3,200 members who registered for door prizes and picked up their free bucket and bulbs.
- Ongoing programs such as our Virtual Energy Assessment tool and online energy calculators helped members manage their energy and save money. Our mobile app and website offer easy account management, as well as tools and graphs that help show members their monthly energy usage.
- Salt River worked alongside fellow Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives to make necessary investments to offer reliable, sustainable electricity at competitive electric rates – factors essential for attracting new businesses and new jobs to our regio. Not only that, but these cooperatives also joined together to support community-driven programs, such as Kentucky Special Olympics Summer Games, Honor Flight Kentucky and the Ronald McDonald House.
- This year, Salt River’s board of directors authorized the distribution of roughly $2.6 million in capital credits, money set aside after the cost of the cooperative’s business is complete for the year. Since 1995, the cooperative has returned nearly $46 million to its members.
While these are just a few of our achievements from 2023, we know that each project, program, initiative undertaken this year aligned with the mission of improving the lives of our members.
Thank you for being a member of Salt River Electric. Best wishes to each of you for a wonderful holiday season and in the coming new year.
